Wellness Curriculum
Mental Health is critical for our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act each day. Our mental health also contributes to our decision making process, how we cope with stress and how we relate to others and make healthy choices. It is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Mental health is integral to living a healthy, balanced life. According to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five American experience mental health issues which translates to more than 40 million adults a year.
Emotional and mental health is important because it is a vital part of your life and impacts your thoughts, behaviors and emotions. Being emotionally healthy can promote effectiveness and productivity in different areas like school, caring for others, or work and in your relationships, it also allows you to adapt to changes in life and cope with adversity.
Our Wellness Curriculum seeks to educate and identify different types of mental illness and how it can affect everyday life. Our current curriculum is geared toward middle and high school students because mentally, our children are struggling and don’t understand or know how to identify these issues and ask for help. We have also incorporated the Suicide Awareness Showdown which will expose different core causes of trauma and provide solutions to start the healing process.
